I don't know the proper words for all that is important to say. But, I do know that a relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the most important part of living here on earth. I do know that God wants us to have a full and fulfilling life both now and for eternity. I do know that God changed my life through His grace.
Relationship
Getting into a right relationship with God is straightforward. What is needed to accept God's free gift can be summarized in a bunch of different ways; here is one that makes sense to me.
- Recognize that you are separated from God because of disobedience. Be they large or small, sin separates us from God.
- Know that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you, taking on the burden of your sins.
- Desire to turn away from disobedience against God's will for your life. You don't have to be perfect (none of us are), but you do need to regret that disobedience and earnestly desire to live as God would have you live.
- Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. There is a sample prayer below. This big step is also a simple act of faith: God has provided a way to reconcile our broken relationship, but each of us must willingly accept that free gift.
Sample prayer:
Dear Lord, I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for me. I know that I have been disobedient to you and that I need your forgiveness. I turn from my sins right now and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for saving me!
